Julian has retired as a principal of the agency, but leaves a legacy of accomplishment in his past. He began his interaction with the community as a child at his father’s DX Service Station on the west side of Spencer. He later owned and operated a GE Appliance store installing many of the first TV’s in Owen County. Later he joined his father in the insurance agency. During his community service he was involved in many of the founding committees for multiple organizations in Spencer, such as the Jay-C’s/Chamber of Commerce, Exchange Club, Community Foundation, Little league baseball, basketball, and football, coaching the first junior league team to a Bloomington Boy’s Club league football championship. Julian has been a life long member of the Spencer Church of the Nazarene, teaching Sunday School and holding many leadership positions both locally and on their district. He also served multiple years on the Sheriff’s merit board, and hospital foundation committees. Julian was named agent of the year for the State of Indiana by Standard Mutual Insurance Company and later in his career was named agent of the year by the Professional Insurance Agents Association of Indiana for his life time of service.
Julian is married to Virginia Faye (Peterson) Duling and they have five children, twenty nine grandchildren, and many more great grandchildren. Julian and Faye (especially Faye) enjoy spending their time on their farm and planning where to eat next with regular visits to Chamber’s Restaurant and Millie’s Diner. Julian has always loved interaction with people and welcomes any contact from old friends.
